We are not drummers filling in the gaps between gigs as music tutors!  Martin is a well known drummer of Masterclass status, a teacher of teachers, professionals, actors and the privileged young talented in the UK.

Stix School is a music school devoted completely for and to comprehensive instruction in Drum Kit and Latin Percussion.  All aspects of drumming are under the direction of Martin Hearn a world class musician and founder of the school in 1994.  He is a professional drummer and member of many professional organisations during his career of over thirty years in the music industry.

Please visit the other pages of this website as they contain details in depth of what we offer.  Some IMPORTANT items to consider are that we are Licensed Data Controllers.  We are covered by Employers Liability Insurance and Commercial Insurance.  We also have the added security that although the student is in a soundproof studio, what happens in that studio is viewed by CCTV in the reception area and at times recorded for security purposes. We have been Police Checked. We hold First Aid Certificates.  We employ Apprentices  in Teacher Training and Office Administration.  We are committed and request that you will be as well.

Martin was originally taught by his father, a Welsh Guards' Drummer under Queen Elizabeth II.  He later studied under Glyn Thomas who was a well known session player before his emigration to the United States.  He was also accepted into the National Youth Jazz Orchestra at a young age under the direction of Bill Ashton where eventually he gained his expertise in teaching at the National Youth Jazz Association as well as various London Schools.  His professional career as a versatile drummer began with NYJO which led him to working London's Famous WEST END.

Martin had acquired experience in teaching, pit performance, world-wide touring, television and recordings of his work at a very young age of 20.  Most of the work he did in early years he was under age causing obstacles at some venues.

He is recognised as a world class (master) drummer and teacher throughtout the music industry and the governments of the UK and US.

During the late 80's early 90's Martin was on stage as much as 287 concerts world-wide including Wembley, Madison Square Gardens, NEC and the London Palladium all within a single calendar year!  Musical Instrument Companies sought endorsement of their products by Martin as with such exposure all could be heard in use.

Martin is also a "Teacher of Teachers" having trained peripatetic teachers for state and independent schools under the government's "New Deal".

In brief, you should know the following about us: We have been responsible for providing outstanding drummers and their tuition ever since  Our specialty is that you will not see just any teacher, but rather a WORLD CLASS DRUMMER with a lifetime of entertainment career. Our regular customers particularly value our friendly approach to learning and a relaxed atmosphere within a fully equipped studio [please view the studio page]. Our business is right in the middle of Town Centre and we work strictly by appointment only.  We operate 42 weeks a year, 6 days a week from noon to midnight.  There is normally a waiting list for enrolment, but saying that if you are truly interested contact us ASAP for your FREE consultation  assessment as we will not add you to our list until you have done so.

The emphasis of our site is on who we are and what we do....that we are in the business of teaching drums not only to beginners but as well as professional drummers, actors  and drum teachers.   All of us at STIX are not employed elsewhere in a 'day job' as you will find within this industry but rather this is our LIFE COMMITMENT.  Music and mpg are in the making and can be found live at www.drums-percussion.co.uk  We're quite pleased that previous students of Stix have taken the time to comment there so soon after going live.  You may have seen our old website at www.drumteacher.co.uk

You can reach us at +44 (0)1525 840147 or 07887996544/8  and speak to  one of us or leave a message. Since we are open at unusual days and times, please be sure that one of us will get back to you if you leave your number. We are looking forward to hearing from you. You can also contact us at our e-mail address: stix@drumteacher.co.uk

IMPORTANT:  WE ONLY TEACH DRUMS TO THOSE WHO ARE SERIOUS ABOUT LEARNING THE INSTRUMENT!   CALL US FOR A FREE CONSULTATION WHERE YOU ARE UNDER NO OBLIGATION.

The next Generation ....?

Christopher  ..... Martin's 13 year old son the 3rd generation of Drummers, 4th in music.  He really has a head start on his Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather! He's also just been accepted into the Youth Theatre.

Pictured below is Martin's Father, a Welsh Guards Drummer (middle row 4th from right) during the late 1940's.  Martin's paternal Grandfather was a pianist.

We would like to thank you for visiting our Internet site. As an up-to-date business, we want to give you the opportunity to stay in touch with our school.  A new content management system will enable us to always keep you up to date.  Make sure you click on all the headings as we are continuously updating this site.  An important note before you go any further: please be aware that all we do is teach drums and percussion.  Not from a private home, yours or ours. There is no other "day job" or outside employment.  This is our LIFE.
